Ondas Fronterizas rise at the limits, a space where the horizon of one experience encounters that of another.  Such thresholds — between elements, people, spaces or systems, are not fixed lines but shifting fields of influence.  Just as atoms have no hard edges, only areas of high and low density, we too are permeable, continuously shaped by forces orbiting around us.

 

Entering into the threshold necessitates a certain amount of translation — a transition across the borders of our own perspective and unique intelligence towards that of another.  It moves within and beyond linguistic exchange and conventional modes of understanding to encompass other forms of attunement. 

 

In this softening, this receptivity to new influence, we enter an exchange.  Because we cannot contain everything forever, often something must be sacrificed, or renegotiated — a certainty, an expectation, a perspective.  As Octavia Butler says, “Everything we touch, we change; everything we change changes us.”

 

And so we might acknowledge the risk of opening to new influence, while at the same time, cultivate a healthy sense of playfulness and optimism.  How can we remain soft enough to allow ourselves to be changed, and with each step, maintain our agency and discernment?

 

Ondas Fronterizas captures this question though elemental juxtaposition and merging.  In astrological traditions rooted in greek philosophy, the more receptive, or yin elements are water and earth.  Here, receptivity is not passivity or withdrawl.  Water yields, changes shape, and finds openings.  The cycles of tides evoke a sense of cleansing and renewal.  Earth contains, nourishes, and creates the conditions for growth.  The mountain encounters the world on its own terms.

Along this shoreline, we are here with and for one another.  Change is not something we simply endure, but a willing participation in the co-creation of our identities.  Witnessing confirms our shared reality, anchoring memory and experience within a larger narrative.  All the while, boundaries dissolve and reform, rippling out in widening circles.
